Beaters are neater! I got this phrase from legendary hot rodding journalist Gray Baskerville, who clearly appreciated finely crafted cars, but who also understood that functional, beat up cars that actually get flogged are much more fun than trailer queens. I can’t think of a car that better exemplifies “beaters are neater” than my Crusher Impala, the thrashed ’69 Chevy that spins tires anywhere and everywhere with its blown, 500ci big-block!
The Crusher Impala is a laugh riot, and it stars on this new shirt with killer design by Coby Gewertz—who is the founder of Church, the owner/designer of the radical Van Go ’63 Econoline and the headline-making St. Christopher ’34 Ford, a full-time designer of movie posters and other spectacular car-guy things, and another devotee of Baskerville.
Wear it for the greatness of the Crusher Impala, wear it for the message, wear it for the legacy of Baskerville, love it for the design, and dig Coby’s spin on my D/F logo that appears on the front breast!
